Pair Diamonds with These Gemstones for a Luxurious Look You’ll Swoon Over

July 9, 2019

Diamonds are remarkable jewels thanks to the rainbow of color they can produce. And of course, due to the fact that white diamonds are colorless in themselves, they can be paired with any tone of gold or precious metal.

However, diamonds aren’t just perfect matches for precious metals. They also prove to be amazing partners for colored gemstones too. Today, we’re going to take a peek at different gemstones, and the kind of aesthetic effect that’s created when you pair them with a glamorous white diamond.

Emerald

Emeralds. Green, grassy, glamorous. Emeralds have been beloved for centuries due to their remarkable color, which can’t quite be matched by any other gem. The organic inclusions present in even high-quality emeralds also lend them a one-of-a-kind look.

White diamonds have the effect of making nearby emeralds appear more “clear” internally. Hence, when designers like Oscar Heyman create platinum earrings that frame tremendous cabochon emeralds with a treasure trove of white diamonds, the effect is that the emerald shines like a spotlight.

Sapphire

Sapphire, on the other hand, exhibits a radically different (but no less gorgeous) look when paired with white diamonds. The rich color of a blue sapphire appears more saturated when paired with a diamond. Designers in the 1920s Art Deco period chose sapphires in their diamond jewelry specifically for this effect.

With modern designers, it’s not uncommon to see them using sapphires as halos and accents in vintage-style diamond engagement rings. Why? Of course, it summons up visions of a beautiful age, but the contrast between sapphires and white diamonds is immediately striking.

If you’re not fond of using a black jewel like onyx or black diamonds, the rich depth of blue sapphires is a gorgeous alternative.

Amazonite

What the heck is amazonite? Amazonite is a complete opaque stone that’s been used occasionally for over 2,000 years. Its color profile is mix of milky white patches with seawater blue. In recent years, designers like Doves by Doron Paloma have taken advantage of the one-of-a-kind hues of amazonite to create amazing fashion jewelry.

Amazonite, like jade, is an opaque stone that doesn’t have any internal fire or sparkle. When white diamonds are paired with amazonite, the effect is that the diamonds lend their fire and sparkle to the overall presentation.

If your local jewellery store offers Doves by Doron Paloma, ask to see their pieces. You’ll immediately see how the interplay of rich color and diamond clarity work together.

Cognac Diamond

We here at Premiere adore colored diamonds. They’re just fabulous because they blend a diamond’s cut and clarity with other jewels’ color. In previous posts, we’ve discussed other colors diamonds can take (including red, pink, blue, and green diamonds), but today, we want to focus on how a cognac diamond pairs with a white diamond.

Cognac diamonds are typified by their orange-brown color — like the liquor cognac, of course. Unlike the other gems on this list, cognac diamonds “bleed” into their neighboring white diamonds. Their rich brown color starts spilling into the clarity of white diamonds, giving them a sort of “vanilla” color.

And when you add yellow or rose gold, this effect is only amplified. If you’re looking for a refined bit of color that doesn’t end up too saturated or bold on its own, a fashion ring with cognac and white diamonds may be ideal for you.
